My kids are not perfect (more on that later), but they are rather cute. See?
It’s only natural that I tell my kids how much I love them and how they are the cutest children in the entire world. As a mother, I believe it’s perfectly acceptable to believe this. My niece, Chloe, is the cutest child in the entire world to her mother, Erica. And Erica is right too. Mothers can live with this sort of incongruence. The laws of the universe bend to the power of mothers.
It’s a complicated thing to grasp so it’s no wonder that my preschool son would find the concept a little difficult.
Example:
Two days ago we went for a walk to get the mail. The post office is only a couple blocks away. It’s a nice walk for Ethan and Audrey’s little legs and my “not-as-little-as-I-would-want-them-to-be” legs. As we were walking back home, we passed a woman with a new baby. Ethan announced that we had our own baby and that he was very cute(Ethan also announced his own age, that Audrey was “Princess Audrey” and that we were the Fritz family, but that isn’t really relevant). As we walked away, I mentioned to Ethan how cute that baby was. Ethan responded by saying, “But that baby isn’t as cute as our baby. Our baby is the cutest baby. Right Mom?”
I guess someone was listening to me when I was gushing over Baby Isaac. Time for a lesson in “baby cuteness”.
