So, our AC wasn’t working so well . . .
Overwhelmed
One of the hardest things about being a mom is that your job duties don’t wait to start until after you’ve showered, had breakfast, brushed your teeth and made your bed.
I’m going to have to get up earlier if I want time to “get ready for work” each morning.
A little closer to having a closet
We’ve been without a closet in our room for almost a year. For most of that time, we just had a rod hanging on the wall and a shelf. About two months ago, we made room for a closet and now, it is finally framed and so close to being ready for a door!
Daddy and Grandpa Fritz (I think both of them used to have different names– can’t seem to remember them now) worked really hard all day. They took out a chimney, patched the ceiling, shingled the place in the roof where it was, framed up the closed, hung some sheetrock, did a little mudding, drove to Menards, almost broke the truck, worked on the truck for a couple of hours, and some other things that I’m missing.
I was planning on taking the kids to church and then meeting Dad and Brian in Eden Prairie for lunch. Last night, I decided, that I would just drive to Cottage Grove and surprise Dad at his church. I know it was a lot of driving and gas is expensive, but it was worth it. The kids were out of the way for a little longer, I was able to take a little nap and I got to hug my brother and my dad. Dad and Brian don’t get hugged every day and Ethan and Audrey had some extras to share. It was really fun to surprise them!
When we got back this afternoon, the kids had fun playing with some of Grandpa Fritz’s tools and Audrey enjoyed chanting, “Grandpa” and pointing. She wanted all of us to know that she knew who “Grandpa” was. Ethan had been excited to get back too because he wanted to help Grandpa build some things.
Shopping trip!
We took a trip to Target today. I had been evening this bedding for Ethan’s room for a while and I decided to give in and get it. I love it. We’ll have a fun Northwoods/Cabin theme for his room! For one of the pictres, I told him to keep his eyes open. You’ll have to guess which one that was.
This made me smile today
Still playing with my hair
I’m still figuring out how I want to style this new cut. Hmmmmm. . .
I chopped my hair off
I still can’t believe I did it. It will look better in a picture that wasn’t taken at 9:30pm, but here is how I look right now. I may fix it different tomorrow.
Thoughts on scrapbooking
- Your kids may not be interested in books and books of photos just dedicated to them. If you do albums for them. They aren’t going to want 40 albums when they move out!
- Go ahead and print the photos that you’re “90 %” certain that you will want to include in an album and then put them in some sort of photo binder I can leaf through so I can see what photos I have as I think through what I feel inspired to work on. They will never end up in an album if they are stuck on your computer.
- Display current photos around the house so they can be enjoyed now.
- Put your albums somewhere your family and friends can enjoy them– even as you are adding pages to it. Don’t wait until you finish the last page. These are meant to be enjoyed now.
- One of the most powerful things about scrapbooking is the ability to add meaning to your photos. I’m all for a beautiful layout, but more important than that, you need to journal on your pages so you can remember specific thoughts, emotions, moments, milestones, funny stories. . . You get the idea. As I work on my pages from our first year of marriage, I want to remember what it was like to adjust to married life and some specific things about the process, and as I work on my kids albums I want to remember what it was like to be pregnant, give birth, adjust to being a new mom, and all the cute, funny, and challenging things Ethan and Audrey did. These are the things that will be most meaningful to anyone who looks at those scrapbooks down the line.
I don’t do all those things I just mentioned, but they are things that I’m thinking about and working on implementing into my process. I havn’t done enough journaling on my pages so that’s what I’m becoming more passionate about right now. The page I did last night is an example of journaling the things I wanted to remember about the first days and weeks of having Audrey home.
I hope you are all having a lovely Sunday! We’re getting ready to head over to Blakes for a moving party.
Whose belly is bigger?
Ethan was trying to push out his belly next to Erica. It was cute. I didn’t get a great photo, but you get the idea!
Happy 5th Anniversary Erica and Tim. Thanks for spending the day with us!
This week’s memory verse
Edited to change the reference
Ethan is learning this verse this week:
James 5:13- “Is anyone of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.”
We started working on it on Monday and he had it pretty much memorized after the first day. I’ll try to get a video of him saying it later.
I’m feeling tired and discouraged today. I’m glad that Nathan is back from his trip.
